October 6th report
Capt. Ed Walsh of Jones Beach Fishing Station at Field 10 told me on Monday and Tuesday Tom the Plumber fished Green Island for a bunch of large blowfish, kingfish and short sea bass. On Thursday local sharpie Max Lonigro worked the early morning tides at Field 6 for a couple of short bass. The next day Tom worked Long Beach with bunker chunks and hammered a 17.14-pound chopper that was weighed in and entered into the Fisherman Dream Boat Challenge. Saturday was a busy time at the piers on the ‘tog front. Capt. Ed took a shot at the white chins with green and Asian crabs and connected with 10 fish including one keeper. Danny the Tileguy hauled in six shorts and two keepers while Construction Eddie bagged two keepers. Sasha from Russia nailed her first ever ‘tog and it was a keeper that hit an Asian crab. The largest white chin of the day was hauled in by 1 year old Jake Goldfried and it tipped the scale at 5-1/2 pounds. J J was close behind with a ‘tog of 5.4-pounds. While ‘togging Funnyman Steve decked a keeper sea bass on an Asian crab. On Sunday Long Beach was very productive for Tom the Plumber and his pal Mike as the duo connected with loads of weakfish and cocktail choppers. At the pier Young Danny bagged a 7-1/2 pound Northern Stargazer. This weekend the South Shore Spectacular will be held at the Jones Beach Station. The station will be fully stocked with fresh bunker, live eels, green, Asian and fiddler crabs.

Little Nancy had a jumbo kingfish that hit a spearing. Tom Plumber hit Green Island for summer flatties and bagged a 4.2-pounder on live killies. On Tuesday Funnyman Steve dropped clams for a mess of kings at the pier. Capt. End tried the 3rd Wantagh for three large blowfish, three short fluke and three kingfish. A female angler nailed a 4-pound summer flattie on GULP. The next day station regular Jerry worked the surf for a 33-inch bass that hit a peanut bunker. On Thursday Capt. Ed and Construction Eddie targeted the OBI pier for a load of short porgies, lots of snappers and a mess of kings and blowfish for dinner. Waheed and his pal Roy from NC fished the pier for a bunch of cocktail choppers to 4-pounds. Capt. End, Tom and Josie tried the pier on Friday and hauled in six cocktails. On Saturday and Sunday the waters around Green Island, Field 10 and the Construction Dock yielded choppers, short sea bass and the occasional triggerfish. The station will be fully stocked with green and Asian crabs for the shore bound anglers who plan to pull in ‘tog this weekend.

- On Monday Wahed Said teamed up with Tommy Trees at the piers for two keeper summer flatties. Jesus decked a keeper weakfish and a few kingfish on shrimp bait at the piers. The next day four year old Dale Young was at the piers and bagged his first ever keeper; a 12-inch scup that hit clams. Paul Battisti came out from Queens and captured a fat 21-inch flattie on squid. On Wednesday John the Baker hauled in two keeper fluke that jumped on live snappers. The anglers at the pier were treated to an appearance by a ocean sunfish estimated to be 125 to 150-pounds. Waheed, Jr. was out on Friday nad nailed his first keeper summer flattie on GULP! Vito broke in his new outfit catching and releasing a few short flatties and some sea robins at the piers. Dara employed live snappers at the piers on Saturday to whack a fine keeper flattie. Station Chef Victor Singh cruised over to the Construction Dock for tons of short fluke and six choppers. On Sunday local sharpie Tony drilled two fluke to 4.65-pounds on live snappers. Mikey was fishing bunker chunks just a few feet from Tony and smacked a 4.52-pound flattie. Young Tony was enjoying a day of fishing with his dad at the piers when he connected with 19-inch keeper flattie that fell to spearing. Doc and the Mrs. stopped by the piers for a bunch of short sea bass and a bluefish. Waheed , Anthony, Chris and King Ryder had a mess of snappers while nine year olds Emily and Dan McArdle bagged 16 snappers on fresh spearing at the piers. Sisuk Kang worked the Oak Beach Pier with bloodworms and hauled in 15 jumbo spots. Local Sharpie Randy Vollmer hit Green Island for 16 short fluke that chomped on sea robin belly. FDNY Alum John Triptree reported a good summer flattie bite on the beach with quite a few keepers in the mix.

Capt. Ed Walsh at the Jones Beach Fishing Station at Field 10 reported earlier in the week Glen and Dan Tellerman employed fresh local spearing for two winter flounder that were promptly released. The Event of the Week occurred when Alex Yip was at the pier fishing a live snapper at the 4th pier and experienced a sudden runoff that took off like a rocket ship. Whatever it was broke his rod and spooled his reel that was filled with 50# braid. On Tuesday Alex Alfonso nailed a 7-1/2 pound summer flattie at the Construction Dock. Station Chef Victor Singh and his pal Paul worked the channels and local bridges during the week and scored on flatties of 7-1/2 and 4-3/4 pounds. On Saturday Jian Jun Li used a bunker chunk to dupe a large chopper. On the same day Antonio worked the back pier and decked a bunch of croaker, kings and spots. Laurie Jordan dropped by the station on Sunday to report that on Saturday she fished all day at the Robert Moses for a 24-inch, 4-3/4 pound flattie and a couple of choppers and then Field 10 for a 21-inch 3-1/4 pound fluke. The flatties and the choppers went for Krocodiles. Heavy Hitter Tony fished the piers for a few days and tallied 13 summer flatties on live snapper with two keepers in the bunch. Young future sharpie, pier regular and Capt. Ed’s buddy King Ryder set up his sister Hannah with a live killie rig and she nailed a fine keeper fluke.

Capt. Ed Walsh at the Jones Beach Fishing Station at Field 10 reported the week started with Station Chef Victor Singh dunking clams at Green Island for a triggerfish and live lining a snapper for a northern stargazer. FDNY Alum John Triptree found two summer flatties to 25-inches in Reynolds Channel. The next day Tom came in from Upstate NY to fish the piers and live snappers enticed three keeper flatties to 25-inches in just 60 minutes. The top of the incoming tide was very helpful. Wahed, Jr. and Tom were both at the piers and they both bagged winter flounder of 15 and 17-inches respectively on clams. The fish were promptly and safely released. On Wednesday Big Al drifted live killies at Green Island and was rewarded with two keeper fluke to 22-inches. Uncle Nick tried the Construction Dock on Thursday and hauled in a jumbo trigger that hit a clam. On Friday nine year old Lisa bagged a keeper porgy at the piers. Capt. Ed chose to go crabbing at Alhambra Beach and he returned with 18 blue claws. Reynolds Channel yielded good flattie catches on Saturday. Victor Singh and his pal Pete live lined snappers and slam dunked a 28-1/2 inch, 7-1/2 pound doormat along with fish of 19-1/2 and 20-inches. Doc from Jamaica Hospital fished a bunker chunk at the pier and caught and released a 26-inch bass. On Sunday Dougie Polvent of Florida set sail from the kayak launch site at Field10 and worked the local waters for five sweet summer flatties to 22-inches.
August 4th Report
Capt. Ed Walsh at the Jones Beach Fishing Station at Field 10 reported on Tuesday Ken dunked clams at the pier and bagged a 1-pound kingfish while Jimmy the Gent used a squid strip to haul in a 21-inch flattie. On the same day Bob Feather and his pal Dave worked the local bridges with live peanut bunker for five flatties to 5-pounds and a 5-pound weakfish. The duo worked the same areas again on Thursday with the peanuts and again scored big with seven keeper flatties including two 5-pounders and another 5-pound weakie. The local bridges were also productive on Thursday for FDNY Alum John Triptree who slammed five keeper flatties including a doormat of 9-pounds, 29-inches. Station Chef Victor Singh sailed aboard the JIB VI in Captree and employed spearing and squid to nail two keeper fluke. On Friday and Saturday Ed spent some time at the piers and bagged four scup with two keepers, three sea bass, and a hackle head. Tony tossed some bunker chunks at the pier on Friday and drilled a massive 31-inch chopper. The next day Jin Jun Li used bunker chunks for a 5-pound chopper. Edgar Gaban bucktailed the bunker schools along the West End Beach and scored on choppers of 5 and 8-pounds. The week came to a close on Sunday at the piers with Ronnie Chen duping a 20-1/2 inch flattie on a live snapper, and 15 year old Faith decking eight snappers.
July 22nd Report
The week started with Station Chef Vic hitting the Construction Dock for two nice triggerfish. The next day Rob the musician nailed a 20-1/2 inch flattie on GULP and Construction Eddie nailed his 5-1/2 pound flattie on a live lined snapper. Both fish were taken at Field 10. Andy Elefonte worked Field 6 with clams on Wednesday and nailed a 31-inch bass. On the same day Teddy Krajovan was at the piers and connected with three keeper scup and two kingfish on clams. Big John used GULP at Green Island and bagged three keeper fluke. On Thursday Laura from All About Cats whacked a sweet 20-1/2 flattie that chomped on a live snapper at Field 10. The piers were productive for an angler on Friday as he employed bloodworms for six keeper scup. Bobby the Bridge worked a live snapper at Field 10 for a 20-1/2 inch flattie. Doc from Jamaica Hospital nailed a 6-pound chopper at the piers on fresh bunker. Matt Phelan from Ft. Lauderdale worked West End #2 for a fine mixed bag of five choppers, two bass to 25-inches and a 22-inch summer flattie. All fish were duped on an A17 diamond jig. Ron Chen caught and released a 20-1/4 inch fluke at the piers. Doug Polvent went kayaking and hammered a 22-inch flattie at Field 10. King Ryder Christian, Anthony, and JR whaled away on a pile of snappers on Sabiki Rigs. Sunday was a very good day for action. In the morning Darren Oliveri worked West End 2 for a 3- ½ pound Northern Stargazer and Big John went back to Green Island for another keeper fluke on spearing and GULP. Brenda Wyllins stopped by Field 10 and nailed a 21-inch flattie on a live killie. Seven year old Logan Goldfried hopped aboard the JIB 6 for a bunch summer flatties to 21-inches. The Spriggs family came down and had a mixed bag including two keeper porgies including Janaysha’s 1-3/4 pounder. Surf guru Paul Thomas targeted WE 2 for over a dozen short bass and six blues that jumped on tins. John the Baker smacked a fat keeper fluke on a live snapper and so did Rockaway Tom at Field 10.
July 15th Report
The week started off with Mel Peterson working the piers and taking a 22-inch flattie on GULP. Robert Murphy was also at the piers and he bagged his 20-inch flattie on spearing. On the same day Paul Thomas was working the West End at Jones Beach and nailed a 14-pound bass on a yellowtail Kastmaster. On Wednesday Doug Polvent was kayaking at the 3rd Wantagh when he slammed the Catch of the Week with a 24-inch, 6-pound summer flattie that chomped down on a sea robin belly. Station regular Richie drilled his second fluke of the week on a bunker strip. It measured a nice 22-1/2 inches. Massapequa Mike also employed a bunker strip on Friday and was rewarded with a 5.5-pound, 25-inch flattie. Paul Thomas hit the surf on Sunday and duped a alligator 14-1/2 pound chopper on the West End on a Super Strike Popper.
July 8th Report
Capt. Ed Walsh from the Jones Beach Fishing Station at Field 10 reported on Wednesday FDNY Alum Jack Donohoe took his granddaughter Rachael Wick to the 2nd Wantagh where she bagged a doormat of 10-pounds, 9-ounces on a 1/2-ounce bucktail with spearing. It was truly the Catch of the Week. Earlier in the week Tony hauled in the first keeper porgy of the season on fresh clam. Some fat flatties are hanging out at the new pier at Green Island. Sunny Li took a 22-inch flattie and a 27-inch fluke was also taken earlier that morning on the new pier. Later that morning his dad Jin Jun Li slammed a 15-pound bass on bunker at Field 10. Frankie Fenemore nailed a 20-inch flattie on a spearing/squid combo on the piers. On Thursday morning Paul Thomas worked West End 2 for a keeper bass that jumped on a red A17. King Ryder connected with a nice keeper Kingfish over 1-pound on the piers. Wahed Said whacked a sweet 6-1/2 pound summer flattie on a Peruvian spearing on Saturday, which was the seventh day of his fluke vacation marathon. On the same day Kuimun Cha had two flatties of 3.4 and 4.5-pounds on squid. Eric Chan found his 3-1/2 pound fluke on the beach with spearing at Field 10. On Sunday Daniel Pietrangelo had a 2.9-pound flattie at the piers and Joe Testaverde nailed a keeper bass while clam chumming along the Green Island pier. Big Vik reported some triggerfish at the Construction Dock.
July 1st Report
Capt. Ed Walsh from the Jones Beach Fishing Station at Field 10 reported on Tuesday Station Chef Victor Singh bagged a keeper flattie on a clam and the next day he bagged a keeper on a bunker chunk at the Construction Dock. The West End was very productive for Dominic on three consecutive trips. On Wednesday bucktails nailed 10 bass with three keepers and on Thursday he connected with six bass inc...luding two keepers. On Friday he tallied five bass with two keepers. Over the weekend the station sponsored the Showdown at the Shore Tournament with 70 anglers participating. Ed said the bite was very slow on all species. The top three in the summer flattie category were Billy Psoras, 3.08-pounds; Tom, 2.6-pounds and Fred Torre with a 2.4-pounder. Billy nailed his first place fish in the surf at Long Beach. Alan Vollmer, who makes the rounds of most of the local tournaments, took first in the bluefish division with a 3.9-pounder. From 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday Slap Jackson provided music and MC'd the awards ceremony. Ed wants to thank everyone who participated in the contest.

Capt. Ed Walsh from the Jones Beach Fishing Station at Field 10 reported earlier in the week Steve Giaccone used a rubber shad at the Sore Thumb to capture a 4.3-pound flattie. John the Baker had a fine week as he bagged keeper fluke at the piers on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. The catch included fish up to 4-1/2 pounds and one of 21-inches. On Friday Randy Vollmer worked Massap...equa Cove for a 20-1/4 inch flattie and then hit the piers on Saturday evening and bagged another 20-1/4 inch fish. The Catch of the Week occurred on Sunday when Angelo Colon took his kayak to Long Beach and targeted the 5-ft. drops. He hammered a doormat of 9-ounds, 29-inches on a homemade bucktail tipped with a chartreuse GULP. Ed is urging all the sharpies out there to sign up for the Showdown at the Shore Tournament for summer flatties, blues and bass on June 29 to 30. The entry fee is $15 and it will run from 9 a.m. Saturday until 5 p.m. on Sunday with all weigh-ins at the station. Call Capt. Ed for details at (631) 559-5938.

Capt. Ed Walsh from the Jones Beach Fishing Station at Field 10 reported on Monday Paul, Sal and Porgy Mike hopped aboard the Capt. James Joseph in Huntington and connected with loads of flatties and took home four keepers. On Wednesday Thomas Hendricks had two fluke to 21-inches on spearing. Walter Marques worked West End 2 with bunker chunks and bagged three choppers. John the Baker fished at th...e pier and bagged two keeper flatties to 23-inches. On Thursday Yiang Jian used bunker to drill a hefty 12-pound chopper. The Catch of the Week occurred on Saturday as Jin Jun Lee whacked a whopper 48-1/2 inch, 40-pound bass at the pier on a bunker chunk. He also nailed a 34-inch bass and five blues. Capt. Ed bagged a 23-inch flattie on a bucktail tipped with GULP. Nick had two keeper fluke of 19 and 21-inches. On Sunday anglers at the pier saw a mixed bag that included three keeper flatties and some blues.

Monday FDNY Veterans John and George triptree worked renolds channel for 3 keeper fluke on spros tipped with gulp. Tuesday Elevator Eddie hit the piers for 3 Fluke on Gulp including a fat 22 in fish captain Ed had for dinner that night. Wed morn Capt Ed had a dozen blowfish and a 29in Striper on a 5 ft snapper rod. Wed afternoon Cristal the pistol connected with 16 blowfish. Thurs morn capt Ed fished a 3 oz spro with a 6in swimming mullet and nailed a fat keeper fluke. Also on thurs the catch of the week came from Jimmy Merola With a Grand Slam! 21 in fluke a 30 in striper and a bluefish!! On the piers!On the same day! Friday Ken and Joanne Glassgen stopped down for some Blowish and landed a nice keeper flounder and a 1lb + Blowfish. Also on Friday Sal wacked a keeper Fluke and Dennis Kubat nailed a 6 lb flattie on a spro tipped with bunker strip. Saturday saw a mixed bag of fluke flounder and blowfish with Roberto taking a 22in fluke for the dinner table. On Sunday Morning Jin Jun Lee nailed a 32in striper on fresh bunker. Bernie stopped in Sunday morning and tailed a nice keeper flounder. Monday morning station chef Victor and Randy Vollmer hit the third Wantagh for two keeper bass on live shad. Also on Monday Aaron Goldfried and big Vik hit the construction dock for two nice keeper Fluke.
May 19th Report
Capt. Ed Walsh from the Jones Beach Fishing Station at Field 10 reported blowfish are king at the piers. Earlier in the week Danny the Tileguy bagged six blowfish and four winter flounder. The next day Tom the Plumber had numerous blowfish and six flounder. On Thursday Station Chef Victor Singh and his friend Pete worked the Meadowbrook and 3rd Wantagh for two keeper bass. Two novice anglers came into the station and rented some rods and hit the piers for two blowfish, a bunch of sea robins and the first kingfish of the year. On Sunday afternoon in the rain Capt. Ed, John the Baker and Danny the Tileguy connected with 38 nice blowfish from the piers. The weekend fishing tournament was a success. Bobby Bait took first place in the flounder division while Teddy took second. In the blowfish division Construction Eddie took first with an 11-inch fish. Victor Singh had a 10-inch blowfish and local sharpie Randy Vollmer had a 9-1/2 incher for second and third place respectively. The Kids Division was swept by 6th grader Rita Rogers who hauled in a bunch of blowfish.
May 12th Report
It was a week of variety for anglers at the Jones Beach Fishing Station at Field 10. Tom fished West End 2 and bagged a 12-pound chopper. Station Chef Victor Singh and his pal Peter fished from the West Bar to the Wantagh four days during the week and limited on bass each time. John Triptree and his brother George worked Reynolds Channel on four trips and limited on three trips. Joe Russo fished from the pier with clams and nailed a 32-inch bass. Blues were active all over and Monique Rusatan, Affwark Javier, Johnny GI, William Costa, Andy Chin, Brian Kadriu, Jake and Logan Goldfried, Mike Molter, Lanxiang Qui and Jeff Weung slammed choppers during the week. Ed’s brother-in-law Craig Chinsky caught and released a 26-inch bass. Danny the Tileguy and John the Baker filled a bucket with blowfish and four keeper flounder while releasing a bunch of ‘tog. Joseph Gaudini used bloodworms to dupe a 2.65-pound flounder. From Tuesday to Thursday Ed captured 40 blowfish and Construction Eddie bagged 2 keeper flounder at the piers.

October 15th report
The word from Capt. Ed Walsh at Jones Beach Fishing Station at Field 10 is the first full week of blackfishing was superb. Earlier in the week youngster Jake Goldfried sailed on the Jib VI and had non-stop action and went home with 3 keeper ‘tog. On Tuesday John worked the Robert Moses area with his pal Charlie and they drilled 7 keeper ‘tog. Activity at the Construction Dock was red hot. Local sharpie Yen Ng worked the dock on Monday to Wednesday and limited on Tuesday and Wednesday with fish to 19-inches. Station Chef Victor Singh also hit the dock and limited on ‘tog on 2 out of 3 trips. Vic employed Asian crabs. Randy Vollmer tried some local pieces and bagged 2 keeper blackfish. Ed noted he has sold equal amounts of green and Asian crabs. Bass have also been cooperative. On Sunday morning Louis checked in with a 16-pounder that hit a bucktail at the West End. Pete used clams at the pier to dupe a 13-pound, 31-inch bass. The Catch of the Week was made by local sharpie Bob Feather. He worked a local bridge with his pal Capt. Dave and live eels caused the downfall of a fat bass of 47.5-pounds, 51-inches. The dynamic duo also hauled in 3 other keepers. Bottom fishing at the piers was also quite good on kingfish and blowfish. Gerard bagged 9 kings on Monday and then returned on Saturday to bag 7. The station’s new hours are 9 a.m. to sunset 7 days a week. The station has fresh bunker and live eels in stock for the upcoming South Shore Classic and is an official weigh station.
October 7th report
The word from Capt. Ed Walsh at Jones Beach Fishing Station at Field 10 is that there is plenty of bait in the water including peanut bunker, shad and mullet. Bunker have been seen from the West End to Tobay. Therefore it’s no surprise that the piers had catches of sea bass, scup, kingfish and blowfish. Louie nailed a 16-pound bass on Wednesday. Elevator Eddie searched for ‘tog at the Robert Moses on Friday and bagged 2 keepers. Capt. Ed worked the Robert Moses Bridge on Sunday with Max and they decked 4 ‘tog with 1 keeper staying aboard. Jin Jun Lee was at the piers on Sunday and caught and released a keeper summer flattie. Bob told Ed he targeted Field 6 and employed clams to haul in 5 bass with 1 keeper in the bunch. Station Chef Victor Singh and Randy worked local pieces for 2 keeper ‘tog and 2 keeper sea bass. Reports came in of good ‘tog activity at the Construction Dock as well as the jetties in Rockaway. Please note the station’s new hours will be 9 a.m. to sunset 7 days a week. The station has both green and Asian crabs in stock for ‘tog season.
September 30th report
The word from Capt. Ed Walsh at Jones Beach Fishing Station at Field 10 is that Station Chef Victor Singh bottom fished all week and had kingfish to 1-1/2 pounds along with blowfish. Station regular Randy Vollmer took his kayak to Massapequa Cove for a mixed bag of bottom species and a 23-inch weakfish. The trio of Construction Eddie, Funnyman Steve and Crystal the Pistol whacked loads of shad at the pier. Gian Jun Li nailed a couple of choppers to 5-pounds on bunker chunks. Fred and Nancy bagged some bottom dwellers and a 5-pound summer flattie. On Saturday Ogie Contreras bagged a 20-inch flattie on a spearing. Ed noted there is plenty of bait in the water such as spearing, mullet, shad and bunker. The station is ready for the opening of blackfish season on Friday and will have both green and Asian crabs in stock.

Capt. Ed Walsh at the Jones Beach Fishing Piers at Field 10 reported he caught and released over 100 sea bass, porgies and blowfish along with an occasional kingfish at the piers during the week. Station Chef Victor Singh whaled away at the kings all week. Mullet came into the pier area as the weekend approached. Early Sunday morning local sharpie Harry the Carpenter bucktailed a 7.8-pound summer flattie at Field 10. On the same day Jian Jun Li nailed a 5-pound chopper. A West End surf angler used clams to haul in a 32-inch bass. The dynamic duo of Paul and Maryanne bagged a few kingfish at the piers. Mike Moilter had fun with scup and sea bass but kept some kingfish for the dinner table.

Capt. Ed Walsh at the Jones Beach Fishing Station at Field 10 said quite a few keeper porgies were taken at the piers during the week including Marty S and Bob Choi bagging 2 keepers each. On the summer flattie front, earlier in the week Danny the Tileguy nailed a 21-inch fish. Diana checked in on Wed with 5-pound trigger and a nice kingfish. On Thursday Iraq Veteran Robert Metzing whacked a 21-inch flattie and his pal Joshua Pagan nailed a 3-pound blue. Youngsters Jake and Jessica Gilberg teamed up to land a 4-1/4 pound fluke on Friday. On the same day Derrick fished a local piece to land 5 triggerfish and then returned on Saturday to bag 2 more triggers to 4-1/2 pounds. Station regular Tom the Butcher and wife Barbara targeted the Sore Thumb surf for her first keeper fluke of 20-inches. On Saturday Amanda Dema stopped by the piers for her first ever fishing trip and drilled a fat 1-pound, 1-ounce kingfish for her first ever fish. Also on Saturday Aldo Jackoucic fished the west end surf with a popper and slammed a 14-pound alligator. Station chef Victor Singh vacationed in Clearwater, FL and had an amazing time fishing for 3 Grouper to 19-pounds. The duo of Maryanns combined for over 25 snappers on Saturday & Sunday while Lewis Cerritos finished up the week on Sunday with a nice size 20-inch summer flattie. Captain Ed wanted to remind everyone that back by popular demand they will once again have their jumbo seafood platter available as part of their end of summer party for the Labor Day weekend.

Capt. Ed Walsh at the Jones Beach Fishing Station at Field 10 said 7 year old King Ryder celebrated his birthday by fishing 3 days last week. He connected with small sea bass, porgies, sea robins and a few kingfish that went home for dinner. Ed’s pal Bob Wilson hammered an 11-pound summer flattie on peanut bunker not far from the station and weighed it in at Woodcleft Fishing Station for the Fisherman Dream Boat Challenge. On Thursday Capt. Ed and Construction Eddie took a morning run for weakfish and captured 5 with 2 staying aboard. The guys employed live peanut bunker and GULP sandworms. Yen Ng fished for kingfish all week and took home some fillets each time. On Sunday he scored on 4 kings and a large blowfish. Joe Levy was out on Friday used spearing to nail a 4.5-pound flattie at the first pier. Joe brought the family along on Sunday and daughters Michelle and Jessica caught and released 20 sea bass. On Saturday Rockaway Tom used squid strips to bag several kingfish. Six year old Ava Eldora fished with her granddad Randy Vollmer at Massapequa Cove and they played catch and release with scup, sea bass, short flatties and sea robins. Ava then nailed a keeper weakfish on peanut bunker. Nick Rapuano worked the night shift on Saturday and decked a keeper flattie on spearing. On Sunday Enoch Torres nailed a 23-inch flattie on a live killie and Construction Eddie hauled in a 13-inch scup while targeting kingfish. Later in the day Jake Goldfried bagged some fat scup at the pier along with sea bass and kings. If you would like to see your child have bragging rights as the top snapper catcher then enter them into the Jones Beach/Friendly’s Kids Snapper Tournament set for this weekend August 25th and 26th.

Capt. Ed Walsh at the Jones Beach Fishing Station at Field 10 said the amount of bait at the piers is “out of control” with tons of peanut bunker and spearing providing a meal for various species. There was a blues blitz almost every day within reach of the piers and Massapequa Mike Moilter slammed a bass on a bunker chunk. Kingfish were the best bet at the piers as the weekend approached. On Satu...rday afternoon Capt. Ed and the Gazebo Boys hauled in a dozen kings, a dozen small scup and a dozen small sea bass. Ed noted that in the last month over 1,000 small sea bass have been caught and released at the pier. Station Chef Victor Singh decked 8 kingfish on Saturday and then repeated the feat on Sunday. Pier sharpie “Bobby Bait” bagged 10 kings on Sunday. The kings were taken on clams. On Wednesday Funnyman Steve, Danny the Tileguy and Construction Eddie combined for 5 summer flatties to 23-1/2 inches. Ed said he has the nice, jumbo killies for fluking at the station. Chef Victor made another trip on the Jib VI in Captree on Friday and captured 3 keeper flatties, 1 keeper sea bass and won the pool. If you would like to see your child have bragging rights as the top snapper catcher then enter them into the Jones Beach Piers Kids Snapper Tournament set for Saturday and Sunday August 25th and 26th.

Capt. Ed Walsh at the Jones Beach Fishing Station at Field 10 said the piers have plenty of life. Mathew Clark enjoyed a mixed bag of kingfish, sea bass, scup and sea robins while Fafework Alemu had a number of short sea bass and some nice triggerfish. Massapequa Mike Molter also caught a kingfish dinner. Station Chef Victor Singh was up to his usual antics at the Construction Dock and hauled in 6...triggers, 1 sea bass and a jumbo flounder that was released. On Friday Victor took his family out on the party boat JIB VI in Captree and his son A.J. took pool honors. The choppers have been blitzing the area every morning and Capt. Ed and his son Eddie offered them A-17 tins and hammered some cocktails. Fluking has been quite good. Construction Eddie slam dunked 5 keeper flatties including a 6.6-pounder that jumped on a live snapper. Station regular Mary Ann had a keeper flattie and Elevator Eddie bagged 2 keepers. Tony Martin, who is recovering from back surgery, was only able to fish for 30 minutes but still managed to bag 4 flatties including a 22-inch keeper. Richie Calvaca decked a fluke of 4-1/2 pounds. On Saturday Laura Rosella drifted spearing at the Construction Dock and bagged a 5-pound sea bass. On Sunday Mark Didomenico employed live killies and squid strips to drill a 5-pound flattie. Local sharpie Randy Vollmer told Ed he used bucktails and teasers at Massapequa Cove for a dozen weakfish and a keeper of 21-inches. Big Vik went out to ponquoque for a fat 22in summer flattie.King Ryder hit the piers with his sister and they used clam baits for kingfish and some short sea bass. Steve Gleason employed plugs under the night lights earlier in the week and connected with 6 schoolie bass. Ed noted that snappers are in but are basically bait size and some of the flatties taken during the week fell to snapper baits.

Capt. Ed Walsh at Jones Beach Fishing Station reported the fluking activity near the piers is phenomenal. three local captains told him that they decked over 10 keepers near the piers on Tuesday. On the piers live killies and live snappers are bringing the flatties. Construction Eddie drilled 3 keepers to 5.8-pounds while John the Baker, Jimmy, Elevator Eddie and Sal the Plumber all bagged at leas...t 1 keeper. On Saturday Samantha employed a killie for a 5-pounder and then returned on Sunday to capture a 9.6-pound chopper blue. Massapequa Mike Moliter slam dunked a 12.1-pound chopper on Saturday on ultra light tackle. Triggerfish are also active as Yen Ng had 2 triggers and a keeper sea bass and Station Chef Victor Singh bagged 2 triggers. Porgy Mike encountered short scup, sea bass and fluke but managed to go home with a triggerfish. Seven year old King Ryder came to the piers and hauled in 2 large kingfish. Ed’s customers told him the better summer flattie and sea bass action is near the tanker fleet at 70 to 90-ft. Local sharpie Bob Feather worked the 42-ft. depths SW of Jones Inlet and won a battle with a 125-pound Thresher. Finally Ed wants to let you know that by popular demand they are once again holding their Shrimp, Clam and Codfish Platter Fish Fry this Saturday and Sunday the 28th and 29th.

Capt. Ed Walsh at Jones Beach Fishing Station reported local sharpie Bob Feather worked the bunker pods west of Jones and he drilled 3 bass to 36-pounds. Ed’s fellow FDNY Alum Jack Donohue fished between the piers at the 3rd Wantagh and nailed an 8-1/2 pound flattie on a spearing/squid combo. On Friday AJ Singh hit the Construction Dock for a 3-1/2 pound triggerfish. The next day Rudy Mercado took his kayak to the vicinity of the Construction Dock and employed Berkley GULP to drill flatties of 6.2, 5.1 and 4.5-pounds. Chris Bugge of Norway had a blast at the piers by catching a 10-pound, 30-inch bass on Sunday. Station Chef Victor Singh went to the Construction Dock and bagged 2 sea flounder with 1 over 3-pounds. Both were promptly released. Shannon Burgess had the pleasure of decking her first ever striper while at the piers. She had a short of 26-inches and a 29-inch keeper that fell for clams. Two friends who were clam chumming next to her decked a couple of keeper bass as well. If you want to enjoy the fabulous Long Island sunsets the piers are open until the sun goes down on Friday to Sunday.

Capt Ed Walsh at Jones Beach Fishing Station reported earlier in the week bunker schools were passing through Jones Inlet and heading west but there were very few bass underneath. Summer flattie action on the piers slowed down compared to the previous week. On Wednesday Construction Eddie used a live killie to nail a 4-1/2 flattie and the next day Irene Martinez used spearing to bag a 4-1/4 pounder. On Saturday 4 triggerfish were hauled in and Rocko Scarola hauled in a 4-pound fluke. Ed described Sunday as, “the slowest day of the season on the piers.” Station Chef Victor Singh managed to bag a triggerfish.
June 25th Report
Capt. Ed had a trip with Surf Guru Max Lenigro and they bagged 6 keeper sea bass and 11 scup. On the way home they tangled with a dozen choppers to 14-1/2 pounds. Don Johnson came by and reported he used clams at the Atlantic Beach Reef and decked a 3.46-pound sea bass. Five triggerfish were bagged at the piers on Sunday. Anglers enjoyed a steady pick of flatties at the piers all week and on Saturday and Sunday 11 keepers over 3-pounds came to the net. Finally, Capt. Ed is quite pleased with the results of the South Shore Rodeo. Local sharpie Bob Feather worked the bunker schools west of Jones Inlet for a bass of 34.1-pounds and a bluefish of 7.9-pounds that took first place in their respective divisions. Station Chef Victor Singh took 2nd place for blues with a 5.9-pounder while 3rd went to Kyle Triptree’s 5.1-pound chopper. Dave Stuck bagged a 6.6-pound summer flattie decked at a local reef on whole squid took first place for the Fluke Division and 2nd went to Construction Eddie’s 4.6-pounder taken at the piers Tom Horvach finished third with a 4.57. During the tournament Bill Bishoff and Randy Vollmer hauled in flatties of 3.9 and 2.9-pounds respectively.

Capt. Ed Walsh at the Jones Beach Fishing Station reported he fished solo earlier in the week and bagged 2 keeper fluke to 4.3-pounds and a bunch of blues. Pier regular Rockaway Tom employed a bunker strip on Wednesday to dupe a 20-inch flattie. Elevator Eddie had 2 flatties during the week with 1 bagged at the Robert Moses pier and 1 at the Jones Beach pier. Harvey tossed a bunker chunk at Field 6 on Thursday and landed a 15-pound bass. On the same day Ralph targeted the West End 2 and employed tins to entice 6 blues. On Friday Capt. Ed took Bill Bishoff on a half-day run to the Atlantic Beach Reef for 22 scup to 3-1/4 pounds and 16 keeper sea bass. The Gazebo Boys told Ed they hopped aboard the Capt. James in Huntington and decked a bunch of keeper flatties to 4-pounds. Station Chef Victor Singh and Mikey went north to Massachusetts and returned with 68 porgies and sea bass to 4-pounds. Reports came in of good amounts of kingfish at the Robert Moses piers. At 7 p.m. on Saturday night Construction Eddie was at the piers and hauled in a 4.6-pound flattie. Local pier sharpie Jianjin Lee nailed a bass on a bunker chunk on Sunday morning. the Jones Beach Fishing Station reported nice size summer flatties were captured at the piers. Danny the Tileguy bagged a 21-incher on Wednesday and then slammed a 23-inch specimen on Sunday on spearing and squid. A winter flounder in the 3-pound plus class was caught and released at the pier on Friday afternoon. On Wednesday Capt. Ed made a last minute decision to go fishing so ...he grabbed his ‘tog rod and sailed aboard the Super Hawk for porgies. He hauled in loads of scup and caught and released dozens of sea bass and blackfish. Ed noted that the big porgies kept bouncing off his hooks because of the stiffness of his rod and lack of stretch in the braided line. He went out on Thursday afternoon with a lighter outfit rigged with a mono leader and whaled away on the scup and captured a pool fish of 3-1/2 pounds and had several others in the 3-pound class. The station is gearing up for Father’s Day this Sunday and has everything needed to give your Dad a memorable day at the piers.

Ed Walsh at the Jones Beach Fishing Station reported local sharpie Rich Calvacca caught and released a 7-pound ‘tog at the pier on Tuesday. On Thursday Ed hopped on his boat with Station Chef Victor Singh and Max for an afternoon bass run. Ed decked a bass of 36-pounds, 46-1/2 inches along with a 10-1/2 pound chopper. The trio put an additional 15 choppers in the cooler. The captain worked Tobay with live bunker. Darrell Heard was out on Friday and bunker chunked a massive 13.46-pound blue at the pier. Another angler nailed a 21-inch flattie. It was very quiet on Saturday as only a few blues to 10-pounds were captured. On Sunday Gerard dropped a bunker chunk at the pier and nailed a 9-pound chopper while nearby an angler pulled up a 21-1/2 inch summer flattie. Jeremy told Ed he bunker chunked a keeper bass at the West End but released it. Capt. Ed, Construction Eddie, Danny the Tileguy and Funnyman Steve ended the winter flounder season on a high note on Tuesday as they all limited out at the pier. For those of you who enjoy live bait for summer flatties, Ed will have live jumbo killies in stock this week.

Capt. Ed Walsh at the Jones Beach Fishing Station reported anglers at the piers enjoyed a steady pick of flounder with a total of 10 to 15 per day being taken. Funnyman Steve, Construction Eddie and Danny the Tileguy limited out almost every day. Eddie hauled in 3 keepers on Wednesday and Danny nailed the largest flounder of the season at the pier with a fat 3.41-pounder that hit a bloodworm. Late... Saturday afternoon local sharpie Rich Calvacca bagged a 2-1/2 pound flattie. On Sunday during the Air Show Construction Eddie decked 5 flounder and kept a 2-1/2 pounder. Station regular Bob Feather picked away at flatties all week. Ed’s fellow FDNY alum John Triptree dropped in and reported he worked Reynolds Channel with Berkley GULP and bucktails for 6 keeper summer flatties. Finally on a truly heartwarming note Tim O’Connell came out to fish the piers on his birthday and received the ultimate gift. His son Nicholas, who is proudly serving with the Marines in Washington, dropped by and surprised him at the pier. Tim completed his birthday celebration by decking a 16-pound bass.What a day!

Capt. Ed Walsh at the Jones Beach Fishing Station reported the Annual Iron Bill Memorial Flounder Tournament on Saturday saw some nice size fish. Over 67 anglers participated and 25 winter flatties were landed. First place went to David L for a 2.4-pounder and flounder specialist Bart bagged a 2.08-pounder for 2nd place. Shannon not only nailed her first ever flounder but took 3rd place with a 1.87-pound flattie. The Kids Division saw James DeJesus win with a 1.21-pounder. During the tournament Bob Feather had 3 keepers and station chef Victor Singh had 2. Rita Rogers fished all day and couldn’t raise a fish but after the contest officially ended she hauled in a 2.46-pounder that would have taken 1st place. Ed wants to thank all the participants, the sponsors and Iron Bill’s family for attending. In other news it was blues, blues, blues all over including the Construction Dock, the inlet and the piers. Army Vet Joe went fishing at the Construction Dock on 3 consecutive days and averaged 30 choppers on each trip.

Captain Ed at the Jones Beach Fishing Station reported he took his son Ed, Jr., Rocco, Nicky, AJ, Jace and Junjun out for some evening action last Sunday. The kids slam dunked choppers to 10-1/2 pounds on bucktails and GULP. Monday and Tuesday were very quiet at the piers with just a couple of winter flounder taken. Gerard bagged two blues to 5-pounds on Wednesday and in the evening an angler bunker chunked a 25-pound bass. Flounder were targeted by Construction Eddie, Funnyman Steve, Danny the Tileguy and Porgy Mike on Friday. The guys nailed 10 and all were over 14-inches. Station Chef Victor Singh was fishing bunker chunks when he had an encounter at the pier with a 3-ft plus. long sand tiger shark. Saturday was another slow day with a couple of blues and some flounder. Winter flatties made a comeback on Sunday as pier sharpie Bob Feather bagged four to 2-1/4 pounds and kept two for dinner. Richie C had a 15-inch flattie while John had one of 14-inches. Don’t forget the Jones Beach Flounder Tournament this Saturday the 19th. There are adult and children divisions and there is still time to enter. Check the Calendar of Events. The station is fully stocked with mussels, clam chum, clams, spearing, squid and worms.
May 5th Report
The Jones Beach Fishing Station had another good week of activity. It started out with Construction Eddie bagging a 2-3/4 pound flounder and Steve taking a 30-inch bass. Tuesday and Wednesday saw a few blues and a few flounder come up. Capt. Ed had two trips on Thursday. The first, a three hour run with Construction Eddie, saw 23 choppers and five short flatties. Later he took Station Chef Victor ...Singh out for 16 choppers and two short fluke that came up in just 90 minutes of fishing. On Friday sharpie Bob Feather bagged four blowfish. In the evening Aaron Goldfried nailed a 10-pound blue while his son Jake bagged the first fluke of the season at 21-inches. On Saturday the pier was alive with choppers galore and over 30 were landed. Mike Moilter decked four to 10-pounds and Victor Singh fought 11 and brought in 8. Most of the blues fell to bunker chunks. Sunday morning was quiet with a few blues and a handful of keeper flounder. Paul from the Wounded Warrior Project bagged a fat one and 10 year old Angel Hernandez hauled in a nice 16-inch winter flattie. The station is stocked with live killies as well as mussels, clam chum, clams, spearing, squid and worms.

Jones Beach Fishing Station report April 30th. It was a fine week of mixed bag activity along the piers and nearby areas. Earlier in the week Station Chef Vic bagged a 5.7-pound chopper. On the same day Construction Eddie bagged a 14-inch flounder, Bobby Feather had a huge blowfish and Pete worked the Construction Dock for an 8-pound blue. On Wednesday Bill Sullivan of Guides Choice bagged a keeper flattie. Capt. Ed and Vic went out on Ed’s boat on Thursday and started out by tossing tins and plugs at the inlet for 9 blues to 8-pounds. Then they set up in Reynolds Channel and clam chummed a keeper bass. Also on Thursday, Danny the Tile Guy and Funnyman Steve had 2 flounder each. In spite of high winds on Friday Danny the Tile Guy hauled in 2 keeper flatties and released a 26-inch bass. Vic had a battle with 5 choppers and landed 3 to 8-pounds. After closing the shop Ed dropped a line and bagged a 15-inch flattie. Paul Caredes had success at the Construction Dock by landing 4 blues on jigs. Mike and Rock targeted choppers on Saturday and landed 3 to 10-1/4 pounds. They also caught and released a 4-pound fluke. Aaron Goldfried fished from the pier for a 3-1/2 pound blue while Funnyman Steve had a 2-1/2 pound flattie. Ed noted that from Friday to Saturday over 25 blues were taken along the piers and that’s the best early season showing in three seasons. On Sunday action slowed down with only 2 blues caught and Bernie bagging 2 keeper flatties. The station will be stocked with live killies as of Saturday as well as mussels, clam chum, clams, spearing, squid and worms.

Jones Beach Fishing Station: Monday Big Vik nailed the first bass of the season on the pier and it was an impressive 31-1/2 inches. It fell for a fresh piece of clam. On Wednesday Station Chef Victor nailed a 5-pound, 9-ounce blue while local sharpie Bob Feather bagged three flatties and kept two of 2.1 and 3.0-pounds. The pier was truly alive on Thursday as Danny the Tile Guy and Construction Eddie both hauled in three keeper flounder and Funnyman Steve connected with the first blowfish of the season. Bernie and Construction Eddie came by on Friday and each managed to get one flattie while New Guy Mike had two. On Friday JJ worked the night shift and nailed a 6.2-pound blue. Bernie returned on Saturday and connected with three flatties to 15-1/2 inches and a 17-1/2 inch ‘tog that was released along with one of the flounder. Mike caught and released an 18-1/2 inch ‘tog. Zhin Shun Geng rented a rod and used it and a clam bait to haul in a 14-1/2 inch flattie. Most flatties taken at the pier were duped on sandworms. Billy Psoras used clams to bag a 15-pound bass. On Sunday morning before the weather turned sour Richie bagged 1 keeper flattie and Danny the Tile Guy decked three blowfish.
